Grasses
Ron grows the grasses around here. This one is my favorite: "Pennisetum" Dwarf Fountain Grass. See more Fountain Grass on the Bed 8 page.
New Zealand Hairy Sedge: Carex comans 'Bronze' I've grown this fun bronze grass in large pots the past couple years. I really love it! The finely textured coppery blonde blades create an 1-2' arching mound that dances in sunlight & waltzes in a breeze. It has become a "must have" plant for me. I just wish it was hardy in my zone. It grows well in partial shade & likes to be well watered.
Ron wanted tall grasses. He took over the wild flower patch (bed #10) & began changing it to tall grasses & not so tall grasses. These billowing grasses down by the bottom pond are a magnificent specimen; perfection in an ornamental grass. We really don't know the name as it was sold to Ron as porcupine grass which it definitely is not. I like it better. The slender green & white blades grow much taller than me then plummet over bowing to the earth. It has been winter hardy & just a joy. Our 4 cats have a great time playing hide & seek in these grasses. It's fun!
Ron / Porcupine Grass
Bed #10 is evolving nicely from wildflowers to grasses. We loved the wild flowers but Ron got tired of doing battle with the weeds. He's really into gasses now. Just a small patch of wild flowers remains. That's only because of the daffodils that are also planted there. I don't want to give up those first bright trumpets of spring.
Big Bluestem
Ron in his pond-cleaning chest-waders posing with Mildred Ann and his Morning Light Maiden Grass / botanical name Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'. He's suppose to be getting the ponds ready for winter but we took a little time out to play.
