Garden Bed #43
Twirling Crispate Form Day LilyToday my garden friend - daylily expert, Bob Wilson told me these are not spider form daylilies but an unusual form, 'twirling crispate'. I'm sure he knows, as these most surely came from his very own gardens. Bob is really getting into hybridizing daylilies. So March 16, 2006 I learned something new. Fun! Everyone goes to Wilson Gardens when the daylilies bloom. Be prepared to meander in a maze of color & fragrance attempting to choose the perfect plant to take home. Once your choice is finally made, Bob says, he's not ready to sell that one yet. It's one he's hybridizing with or watching to see what it's going to do. So your search starts all over again. Bob's a retired teacher and as you make your way through the flowers together, he gives lessons on hybridizing and lectures about his successes, failures, & dreams of producing an absolutely outstanding new daylily plant. Finally you find one you love & Bob is willing to part with. Either he or his brother, Randy (also a teacher) dig the clump for you. Walla! just like magic, astounding beauty added to your very own sun garden. And you've had such a good time and learned so much. It's a good thing. See the Central Iowa Daylily Society (CIDS) website for Bob Wilson: Hybridizing at Wilson Gardens. Included are pictures of Bob's hybrids.
