Garden Bed #31
Annual BedAnnual bed. Every year we toy with the idea of making this rectangular 4' x 7' bed a fun little pond. We just never quite get to it. This year it got filled with extra plants that followed me home. I noticed some tiny little leaves coming up in here. I thought they might be baby hosta seedlings. They turned out to be, believe it or not, calla lilies from seed pods thrown in here last fall. What a hoot!
Bed #31 - (2007)Annual Bed - now home to various young perennials. This is where I stash baby plants I don't know what to do with, like the prolifs from day lilies, starts of sedums, & anything else that might need a safe place to grow (supposedly) temporarily. Self-seeded, salvia, 'Lady in Red' still finds an inch of grow-room here too. In fact, she grows lots of places around here now, including the driveway. She is very welcome to grow just about where ever she might choose in the gardens. This summer when everything else was winding down, 'Lady in Red' put on her scarlet festival of color. I am loving that plant, especially her name. Salvia 'Lady in Red' has bridged the test of time staying ever true & popular in the garden. The honor of AAS -( All American Selections) winner was bestowed upon her in 1993. |
