Garden Bed #6
This bed originated as a circle around the walnut tree. 2003 it was expanded as a slighty raised "lasagna" bed so I had somewhere to plant all my new special hostas.
Hosta 'Ghost Spirit'
Hosta 'Royal Tiara' This is an oddly interesting little plant. (sport of Golden Tiara) It grows surprisingly well with its twisted gnarly leaves. I enjoy having it in my gardens. One revert to solid golden lime-green this summer. I kept it & named it "Barbara Wing" for my fun blonde aunt.

'Spritzer' x pycnophylla
sz - Md
yellow chg to chartreuse / lance shaped rippled margins / red petioles
profuse purple flowers adorn long stalks shooting into the sky, gracefully arching
Enjoys morning & early afternoon sunshine in my garden. May be one of those hostas that might do well in full sun???
Tequila Sunrise (Greg Johnson form) anchors Bed #6 with its graceful beauty & fun progression of performance. In early spring it is such a bright yellow you almost have to squint when you see it. The color mellows & changes to yellowish-chartreuse as the summer heats up. The flower show is just that a profuse explosion of dark red-purple buds opening to show off purple dancing blossoms. Another favorite in Marlys' Garden - MM

Hosta 'Veronica Lake'
Hosta 'Pearl Lake' mutation (sport)
Frank Riehl / Iowa Hybridizer (1993)
size - sm - md / 10 - 12" tall
leaf - blue/green / creamy-white margin
Blooms profusely / excellent color contrast
Very fun, easily grown
"Grey-green with creamy white margin. Med. size heart shaped leaf. This is the long awaited white edged form of the wonderful H. 'Pearl Lake'. Just like the parent, this Frank Riehl introduction forms a symmetrical 15" wide clump of blue green heart shaped leaves, each bordered with a dramatic wide creamy white border. In early summer, the clumps are topped with abundant 18" scapes of lavender flowers. Just like its parent, H. 'Veronica Lake' is a superb hosta to use for a border in the woodland garden."
'Hosta Library' / MyHostas database: Veronica Lake
Hosta 'Veronica Lake' has become quite a favorite in my garden. I admit, at first it was just the name. The movie star Veronica Lake was a 'Diva'. I remember her silky blonde hair flowing over the side of her face and that sexy thing she did with her head so she could actually see. LOL! So the name suckered me in but I'm glad it did. When will I get beyond buying plants just for the name? I don't know!
'Veronica Lake' thrives in a great deal of morning sun in my garden. I suspect she would be more of that gray-green/blue color-characterism that denotes her if grown in deeper shade. The plant is worry-free once established. She isn't bothered by slugs or bugs and puts on a fancy 'fan-dance' flower show in summer. 'Veronica Lake' is very entertaining! - MM

Hosta 'Night Before Christmas' / 2006
I really enjoy this 'stand-out' hosta. It is much prettier than I imagined it when I bought it just for the name. I've since thought about collecting 'Christmas' hostas. There's White Christmas, Christmas Candy, Christmas Cookies, Christmas Cup, Christmas Dome, Christmas Gold, Christmas Jewel, Christmas Lights, Christmas Tree, Christmas Tree Gala, Christmas Pageant, Christmas Stocking, Christmas Surprise. Nope, I don't have room for all those.
"18" tall. Part Sun to Light Shade. A 'Fortunei Albopicta' type. Green leaves with a bold white center. A spectacular plant. June brings lavender flowers. Bold white center with a medium green edge. A sport of H. 'White Christmas'. Lavender flowers. An unusually good white centered form, vigorous. This is one fabulous hosta! If you want to make visitors stop in their tracks and drop to their knees, here is the hosta for you. The 8" long x 3" wide leaves on this vigorous grower (sport of H. 'White Christmas') have a clear white center surrounded by a dark green border. In late summer, the old foliage turns solid green, allowing more food to be produced for the upcoming season. The 30" wide clumps are topped with lavender flowers on 30" scapes in early summer." - Hosta Library Data Base

Perilla 'Fantasy' & Perilla 'Magilla Vanilla' must be cousins of the monster Perilla frutescens. They are beautiful & when I bought them I thought they were coleus and still would if Trudy hadn't told me different. I grew them in pots in partial shade / part sun last summer. They were awesome performers & so vibrantly colored, they just plain glowed in their pots. I took cuttings in the fall. They have been very enjoyable indoors this winter too. They got scraggly after a few months. I took them outdoors cut the pretty tops off, stuck them back in pots, & away, they went; never "missed a lick"! Jan says not to turn them loose in the garden though or you'll be sorry, and she will say, "I told you so".

Hosta 'Galaxy'
O - William & Eleanor Lachman 1987
origin - (x 'Beatrice') x 'Frances Williams
sz - Medium / Lg
Prodigy of two of the finest hostas known;
Galaxy is a must-have plant (shinning star) in any shade garden. And Galaxy sets seeds thus is considered a premiere streaked breeding plant. Even, I save seeds from my Galaxy.
I have one (yearling) Galaxy seedling growing in the garden that really makes me smile. It looks so much like its mommy. If you grow no other hosta, please, still grow 'Galaxy' in your shade garden. You will not be disappointed! Very dark green, heavy textured down-turned round edge leaves, yellow to creamy white, wide molted streaking. Awesome plant!
